My boyfriend, Jon, is doing a poem a day this January - here’s his entry for January 1st :) Enjoy and follow him here ;)
The Truth About Bird Wings and Beethoven
This morning the rain set in,
but I knew it was going to be a good day
Because you like the rain,
and the last time it rained
we stood under an umbrella
of mountain trees
shivering between our jacket sleeves
as ducks slipped
atop the pond, droplets
cling to feathers and polyester,
and it rained harder, but I wasn’t worried.
You told me the truth
about classical music
and flapping thundering bird wings
being the inspiration for Beethoven
and the popular opinion
he was angry about
the loss of his hearing isn’t true,
which is written as truth in textbooks
and isn’t true but I trust you
because you told me the truth.
