Through a series of repeated and appaling misfortunes, I have come to learn that the shrinking and ruining of my favorite articles of clothing in the wash (whenever I make the mistake of having someone else do my laundry) is as inevitable as the pain of dental work.
Except it hurts more. Much, much more.

Noticing the resurfacing trend of signing things “anon” and reading the signature in old poetry books I have (including the amazing one Joy got me for Christmas - thank you thank you!), I’ve always marveled over the etymology of this saavy alternative for “anonymous”. For at least the past six months the question of its origin and what it literally meant has popped in...
My two cents for today
The study of theology, doctrine, and philosophy is of cardinal necessity because everyone has one whether or not they are aware of it, and our philosophies dictate our actions. For, if we are not self-aware of our own philosophy, we are being dictated by subliminal forces that have been ingrained in us since we were young that may or may not (more often than not the later) be founded in logic and...
When digesting a well-written book of any style, the brilliance boils in the pit of my stomach as a sort of joyous variation of untameable anger (perhaps because it is another form of passion).
G.K. Chesterton’s “Orthodoxy” has me in an incessant state of being on the verge of a squeal.

C, E-flat and G go into a bar. the bartender says, “sorry, but we don’t serve minors.” So E-flat leaves, and C and G have an open fifth between them. After a few drinks, the fifth is diminished and G is out flat. F comes in and tries to augment the situation, but is not sharp enough.

Dear future spouse,
fwoosh:
I’ve never been in a relationship before, so I may not know how best to treat you. I may be will probably be awkward, and may accidentally gloss over important things that I should be doing. I may not be aware of good places to take you, and I may not have the best idea of what gifts would be most suitable for different events.
But know that for everything that I DO decide to do… I...

Oh cruel world of sugar, flour, cold rainy weather, and laughing until 4am: I knew you would catch up to me. The week of Christmas is not the time to come down with a fever. :(
song update
So, I am very excited. My head is overflowing with harmonies and ideas for the song, but I came to the conclusion that the background music for it most definitely needed to be primarily (perhaps exclusively) guitar. But I stink at guitar.
BUT! I have a good friend named Chad who is the best guitar player I know. Seriously, this guy knows his stuff. He goes to school in Chicago, but he’s...
:-o
I wrote a song.
It’s a simple, predictable progression, and it’s not the first time I’ve written lyrics.
But for the first time I’ve finished an entire song that I think is worth being heard.
I finally had a reason to and could finally put it into words and music. I’m really excited.
I’ll work on recording it and posting it asap :)
home sweet home
I went to the atm at the Yucaipa chase in the cold and drizzling weather, deposited my work check that *finally* came in the mail (YAAAAYY!), and as I was turning around I heard this shaking in my ear and turned to have a semi-creepy fifty-something-year-old man shaking a jolly rancher in my face.
Me: oh, no thank you
Man: yah sure? (still shaking it awkwardly close to my face)
Me: yeah, but...

one more thing to top off the night
Perhaps it is unfair to anticipate the impending nudge of nostalgia without evidence that the ebbing era is even gone (better yet: was ever there to begin with).
But who said the heart was fair.
Just finished the last final of my first semester of college, and mutually the last math test I will ever have to take the rest of my life. Sweet, sweet victory.
Upon returning to my apartment, I walked into my disheveled room with clothes and paper and books and more clothes spewed around the floor, on the bed, and on top of my lamp in disarray and old silverware and dishes lying around as...

Zephaniah 3:17 says “The Lord your God is with you…He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with His singing.”
First of all, can I just point out how lovely the idea of him “quieting you with His love” is? Better than anything Jane Austen could come up with, that is for sure.
Secondly, my friend posed the question...
Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profundity....

Do I have permission to write a “woe is me” blog? What if I give it a disclaiming precursor? Here goes.
Disclaimer: I love learning. I love singing. I love meeting new people and being around the friends I have made. I love the business of city life and college and the swarms of people around campus. I love doing well and knowing I’m succeeding and I love singing. Did I mention...
Oh yeah, did I mention I rode from Yucaipa to Fullerton on a motorcycle today?
Just sayin. Definitely a highlight of my life.
In defense of blogs
It’s been quite a long time since I’ve written a blog: an introspective, raw log of my thoughts. I’ve had several reasonable excuses including lack of time and spending more time handwriting in my journal, but in actuality my recent cyber shyness can be mostly attributed to discouragement.
Let’s face it: a lot of people find great pleasure out of sneering at the act of...
